Competitions, leagues and cups
Football's calendar is built out of competitions, and they do not all work the same way. A domestic league is a round-robin: every club plays every other club, usually home and away, and the table decides the champion. A cup is a knockout: lose and you are out, so there is no table to read, only a bracket of fixtures and results.
The competition types on this site
- Domestic leagues — the top divisions of each country, ranked by points across a full season.
- Continental club competitions — the Champions League, Europa League and their equivalents on other continents, where clubs qualify through their domestic finish.
- Domestic cups — single-elimination tournaments running alongside the league, often with lower-division clubs entering early rounds.
- International tournaments — national teams competing in continental championships and world finals.
Each competition page carries the same building blocks: the current table where a table exists, the fixture list ahead, the results behind, and the scoring charts drawn from the player database on this site.
Football competitions — FAQ
How many competitions are in the database?
More than 899 competitions worldwide, spanning domestic leagues, continental club tournaments, domestic cups and international football.
Why do some competition pages show a table and others only fixtures?
League-format competitions produce a table. Knockout tournaments produce a bracket, so those pages list fixtures and results instead.
Can I filter competitions by country?
Yes. Use the country list above to see every league and cup registered in a single country.
